Latest News: A gunman on Wednesday opened fire on the Republican members of Congress during a baseball practice. The incident took place near Washington and left several people wounded including House of Representatives Majority Whip Steve Scalise. The gunman has been taken into custody.
Mo Brooks said in a dramatic account that the gunman was armed with a rifle and he was a white man, also was a little chubbier.
Brooks was reported saying he saw the man just for a second. He saw him shooting from a fence that was behind the third base position where the group of Congress members was doing their morning practice.
He further said around 50-100 shots were fired. He also heard Steve Scalise scream when he was shot.
Brooks said A security man at the place was shooting back the shooter but his pistol could not compete with the shooter’s rifle. Brooks said he only had a baseball bat as a weapon.
It was reported that Scalise was shot in the hip and would survive.
He was one of the most senior members of Congress with his positions as Whip in the Republican-dominated House.
The US President Donald Trump, who is a Republican, said he and the Vice President Mike Pence were closely monitoring the developments of the shooting.
